The Historic Octagon House was built in 1856 as a wedding gift to Civil War soldier Edwin Brown. The home, with its nine secret passages and one underground tunnel, was subsequently used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, visitors can climb through the same tunnels used by slaves and read actual messages left in their travels. The historic residence is located in the heart of downtown, near Taylor Park.
